NATIONAL TRUST WOOLBEDING GARDENS FAQ'S
OPENING TIMES, BOOKING, PAYMENT, NUMBERS, CAR PARKING, & MAP
1.OPENING TIMES & BOOKING
How far ahead do visitors now have to book to be certain of a ticket?
We are rapidly booking up. So as soon as someone knows a date they wish to come we would advise them to book. All visitors - regardless of how they get there - must book by ringing 01730 825415. Opening Times: 10.30 am - 4.30 pm Thursday and Friday between April 12th and September 30th. Adults £5.50, children £2.25, Families £13.75. Entrance near the road junction - see map below.
2 . NUMBERS
What's your current numbers limitations, and what drives this?
There is NO on-site car parking. The numbers are limited by the bus and how many people can get on them. Walkers are limited by the numbers we can cope with in the garden but that figure is fairly high. So we can have about 200-300 people walking each day but are very keen that people do not park at the church and 'walk' as this is destroying the verges and, understandably, upsetting local people. But we are happy for people to walk from Midhurst or the locality.
3. PHONING TO BOOK OR OBTAIN INFORMATION
What times are the phones manned?
The phones are manned between 9-5 pm Monday to Friday and as much as we can on Sundays. If someone doesn't answer please leave a message and we will ring you back as soon as we can. We normally have two or three people in the office at any one time but with each booking taking between 5-10 minutes we can't always get to each phone call when it comes in.
4. GETTING THERE
What are the logistical options?
There is NO onsite car parking. Visitors can either come to Uppark and take a shuttle bus, which is running
4 times a day: 10am , 11am , 12.15pm and 1.15pm . You then get about 2.5 hours in the garden before it brings you back again. Your other option is to walk to the gardens from the Midhurst locality - See Editor's comment below. The centre of Midhurst is about 2 miles along the river walk or the nearest NT parking just off the A272 is just over the half mile.
5. PAYMENT
How is payment made and where?
Payment for the bus is £3.50 per person and that is made when you get to Uppark. Payment for entrance to the garden is £5.50 and made when you get there or you show your NT membership card and gain free entrance.
6. GROUPS
Do you seek a deposit or booking fee for groups?
For groups of 10 or more booking the bus we ask for pre payment which can be by card on the phone or by cheque.
7. BIKING
Are bikers welcome? And are there railings or bike racks?
People are welcome to come by bike. As yet we do not have actual bike racks, but we do have fencing which they can use if they like. We hope to get racks in for next season.
EDITOR'S SUGGESTION. Park your car in 100-space Cowdray Free Car Park at Easebourne on the outskirts of Midhurst adjoining
The Farmshop and Café, post code GU29 OAJ, rent a bike from Posh Pedalers next open at Easter - all sorts including electric - and enjoy a ten to 15 minúte gentle ride down Hollist Lane to Woolbeding House. When you've finished your visit you could cycle on to other places. A Satmap is provided, so you won't get lost!
Editor's Comment on 'Midhurst Locality' . On the day I recently (2011) visited National Trust Woolbeding Gardens - a Friday - 594 others did likewise. A great many people found car parking within walking distance - see picture of the broad tree-lined avenue. But, I doubt whether more than a handful of intrepid souls parked in Midhurst itself. Once inside, of course, these capacious gardens soaked up the crowd and it was a totally delightul experience - but allow a full 2hrs or more
