Steve Cockram writes : We have three events running from the Grange this weekend, separate 100 & 200k routes on the Saturday & further 100k 'Grimpeur' on the Sunday.
I don't know how good your French is but 'grimpeur' is a French term for 'hilly', & has become cycling slang for an extremely hilly & challenging event. The Sunday event is billed as 'The MIdhurst Corker' & also gets run in Feb/March when its much more 'challenging' because of the often poor weather! I'm down to ride the 100k on Saturday - we're going out Saturday afternoon/evening so I don't have time to get round the 200. I don't have route details for the 200 but Saturdays 100 does a big loop via Elstead, South Harting, Milland, Lynchermere, Fernhurst, Lickold & back into Midhurst for 'lunch' then to Selham, Sutton, Bignor, West Burton, Houghton, Slindon, Eartham & Halnaker. Mornings route includes the climb of BexleyHill (the hard way) & I'll try and get you some photos of riders on the climb.

Report on The Midhurst Corker & Other Rides from Richard Phipps Hon Sec Audax (UK).
The attractive Sussex market town of Midhurst again played host to Audax UK last weekend. There were three rides scheduled: two on Saturday using a figure of eight course, with a total length of 100 or 200KM (62 or 125 miles in old money.) From the Leisure Centre, riders travelled to Cowfold via a minor lanes route, returning via the challenge of Henley Hill to the Centre for a wealth of refreshments provided by the ride organiser Dave “El Supremo” Hudson. The second half again used quiet roads to New Alresford, with another sting in the tail up Bexley Hill. Having freewheeled down the other side, they finished at the Centre enjoying another “all you can eat and drink” refreshment break with much socialising and chatting. There was a total of seventy riders on this day’s riding and all seemed to enjoy their little tour.
The following day offered just a 65-mile ride - The Midhurst Corker - , which made up for the lack of distance by additional climbing. In contrast to the showery weather previously experienced, the forecast was for a dry day, so no one was surprised by another shower shortly after the start! Happily, it did not last long and the remainder of the day stayed dry, and the slopes round “Glorious” Goodwood showed their best face. A select field of two dozen hardy souls accepted all the challenges the terrain could muster to return mid way to stoke up for the trickier second half. Everyone returned after the second very scenic loop with his or her tiredness offset by the sense of successful achievement. They even vowed to come back when it is run again. Congratulations to all the finishers, particularly those who didn’t know what they were letting themselves in for.
These are just a few of the many rides organised throughout the year and throughout the United Kingdom for Audax UK . Rides start from 50KM (30 miles) and increase in length up to a mammoth 1400KM (900 miles). They are definitely not races (there are minimum and maximum time limits) although they are timed, but riders’ times are not published. Riders carry with them a card to be stamped at specified locations as proof of passage, and often travel in sociable groups to increase the enjoyment. We have the most extraordinary countryside and country lanes for biking enthusiasts of every hue, friendly and accommodating pubs and cafes and FREE car parks where you can leave your car the whole day without getting a ticket. Regretfully, we don't yet have our own Cycling Club, though that has been mooted. Here are the routes:
