Although Portsmouth has been undergoing exciting redevelopment for a number of years now, it's absolutely 'nothing' compared with what's expected in 2013, the year the Hindhead Tunnel is completed. The Hindhead A3 bottleneck gives an additional journey time for London- Portsmouth of at least 20 minutes, and longer on Bank Holidays and other peak times. The effect on local traffic is also a major problem for residents of Haslemere and Farnham, and other local towns and villages, who regularly travel cross-country. The £320 million scheme got the go-ahead today Thursday 6th June 2006 and work is expected to start on 2009 and be complete in 2013, or possibly 2012. The effect on Portsmouth, Chichester , Hindhead and the the hinterland will be immediate and dramatic as investment flows into the region.
