MIDHURST - Foyle's War 5, Episode 2
Preparations for Filming & the First & Second Day's Shooting

The jewellers, Church Hill, having a rapid makeover by Mark and his team to F.G Wilson - a booze shop Church Cottage interior prior to conversion to a film-set and showing the old exposed beams
A study in concentration. A set director perhaps? He didn't look up once whilst I was snapping Church Cottage . The booze shop complete; but probably the first ever to sell watches and jewellery! You can see the original stock glinting in the window.
Church Cottage taking shape. The doorway on the left has been blocked off. Fitting the curtains in Church Cottage. The old beams suggest a 16th century origin for this house
John an arable farmer from Andover dressed as an extra for a walk-on part. Another one of Sarah's friends Who are the boys? Which one is James, Lydia's son? Please refer to the Episode Outline for reference to the 'boys'.
Sarah's friend Allan from Bramber in West Sussex, a jazz musician, roped in as an extra. Sarah from Easebourne, Midhurst, roped in her friends as extras

Dee and her friend were first to turn up for today's filming in Midhurst - Thursday 13th.
More visitors from Chichester and elsewhere were thronging Church Hill in the hope of seeing some action. But, viewers were disappointed as everything was done indoors. A face in an upstairs window with a trilby may have been John our farmer friend from Andover. He was seen going into the house this morning.
Still we hope this pm will bring something...

The real film stars this morning were a group of keen cyclists from Dorking, caught on camera in North St, on their way to Pampaloma in Spain. But, first lunch in the beer garden at the Wheatsheaf
MK taking a break from filming at 2.30pm The really interesting bit of information to emerge is this: Church Cottage in real life is Lydia's house in the story, the heart of this episode
Carrying the logs back to the truck from 'Lydia's' house. Logs are supplied by the lorry load in Midhurst, so this basket-style delivery method might prove both a little slow and mightily expensive if adopted here! These Foyle's War fans from Midhurst deserve their place in this gallery - they stayed all day, and their enthusiasm never flagged! Note the Union Jack head-scarf,the latest fashion accessory in the US, I'm told.!
Sue's beautiful picture of the Spread Eagle looking down hill towards South Pond, and with the immaculate Swan Inn on the left - it even had hanging baskets in the depth of winter, but is still very much a 'people's pub' Sue's picture of AH being spruced up outside Church Cottage

Can you help with our Follow-through Project?
As soon as Series 5 is launched in Spring 2007 we wish to collect stills from the actual film and match them to the Midhurst Venues. We will then create a Gallery to accommodate our 'pairs' of pictures. At some point, we wish to discuss Foyle's Tours with Visit Britain. If you live in or near Midhurst and would like to be part of the 'spotters team' please email the Editor, Midhurst Pages john.trueman44@virgin.net
