THIS HANDMADE TRADITIONAL SOLID OAK KITCHEN with a light oak patina has decorative turned pilasters with a cream patina. It is quite unashamedly classic in feel and has its roots in Georgian kitchen architecture. The raised and fielded cabinet doors have simple Shaker style round knobs and a substantial chunky feel. The centre piece of the old Georgian kitchen was the fireplace enclosed by a substantial manle.
Here we have the modern equivalent where the recess accommodates the kitchen range or Aga. A gently coloured tiled splash back in the above picture provides a piquant balance to the eye-catching cream patina on the turned pilasters, decorative corbels and mantlepiece. The dentil cornicing is also painted with a cream patina. The floor is neutral in colour. The overall ambience is grand country style - what you get with a smaller Stately or large country house, perhaps. Modern twists to the traditional kitchen are the granite worktops and the kitchen islands. In the picture below you'll note some of the clever traditional ways of creating necessary storage for any number of household items. The box-settle with lift up lid is especially popular.

VALUABLE ADDITIONAL STORAGE
One of things we never have enough of is storage or places to keep our assorted human flotsam. In the early days of the car, after WW1, many country houses had the need for rug storage. Yes! Early cars were often cold and draughty. The box settle in the picture to the left with its lift up lid was absolutely ideal for car rugs.
Today, as a modern kitchen accessory it has many uses, but top of the list in most young households is as a toy cupboard. But, I'll bet you'll have other ideas! Also in the picture here is a classic oak dresser.
